The Architect

Image of Clive Clark the golf course architect for Lake Winnipesaukee Golf ClubBritish designer Clive Clark has spent decades immersed in the game of golf, bringing a wealth of experience from multiple perspectives—as a player, commentator, and acclaimed course architect.

As a golf course designer, Clark has more than 30 courses to his credit across Europe and the United States. As a player, he competed in both the Walker Cup and Ryder Cup, secured five European Tour victories, and finished third in the 1967 British Open.

Clark also served as head professional at the world-renowned Sunningdale Golf Club in England and spent 18 years as a BBC Television golf commentator, further cementing his influence in the sport.

Among his most celebrated designs is Belgrade Lakes Golf Course, which was rated the #1 course in Maine in 2002. It also earned Golf Digest’s prestigious 5-star award, making it one of only 12 daily-fee courses in the U.S. to receive this honor. Belgrade Lakes joins an elite list that includes Pebble Beach (California), The Broadmoor (Colorado), Pinehurst Resort (North Carolina), The Challenge at Manele (Hawaii), and Timber Ridge (Michigan). Clark also designed The Hideaway in La Quinta, California—an exclusive, high-end club featuring 36 holes designed by Clive Clark and Pete Dye.

Sharing Club creator Bernard Chiu’s enthusiasm for the Lake Winnipesaukee site, Clark is committed to bringing their vision to life—creating a course that delivers an exceptional golf experience for players of all skill levels.
