Pride Watching Over History
Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club inherits land with a rich cultural legacy. According to legend, part of the property once served as a sanctuary for the Underground Railroad, which helped as many as 75,000 enslaved people seek freedom in Canada between 1830 and 1860. The remains of a small stone cottage, long lost in the mountainous woods surrounding the golf course, whisper a story that Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club respectfully observes and protects.
Architecturally Superior, Historic Style
The internationally renowned architecture and interior design firm William Zmistowski Design Group LLC designed Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club’s main clubhouse. With its bold natural stone façade, wood-paneled interiors, elegant amenities, luxuriously comfortable furnishings, and unparalleled member services, the clubhouse complements the scenery with a commanding architectural presence.
Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club Today
Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club is a premier private golf destination, featuring a stunning 7,017-yard, 18-hole championship course. The course is the realization of owner Bernard Chiu’s dream—a vision to create one of the finest golf experiences in the region. To bring this dream to life, Chiu enlisted renowned golf course architect and British golf legend Clive Clark to design a course that seamlessly integrates with the natural beauty of New Hampshire’s lakes and mountains.
Every hole was meticulously crafted to highlight the region’s breathtaking landscapes, incorporating elevated tees with panoramic vistas. Even the cart paths were thoughtfully designed to remain hidden from view when looking down the fairways, preserving the course’s pristine aesthetic.
Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club has earned national recognition, hosting the New England Open in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008—the first time a New Hampshire venue was selected for the event. Partnering with Sovereign Bank and American Express, Mr. Chiu and the New England PGA offered the largest purse of any regional Open in the country.
Setting the course apart from most top-tier golf venues, which typically feature 500–600 sprinkler heads, Lake Winnipesaukee boasts over 1,400 computer-controlled sprinklers, ensuring immaculate fairways, roughs, and fescue lines. The course’s signature sand bunkers contrast strikingly with the lush green fairways, creating a visually stunning landscape.
Recognized for its excellence, Golf Digest named Lake Winnipesaukee one of the top ten new private golf courses in the country in 2004. The club was further honored as Golf Course of the Year by the New England Golf Course Owners Association in 2007 and has been consistently ranked as one of the top two golf courses in New Hampshire by Golf Digest since 2004.
